About Us

Wizard Catering started in business on September 15, 1985 by catering a small Anniversary Dinner for a cousin of our owner. The past seventeen years each have shown improved sales. Our steady growth has been made possible by many loyal clients through these years.


1985 to 1986

We shared kitchen space with a small deli in Mount Joy. Holiday parties and corporate picnics were the most frequent types of events.


1986 to 1988

Still a part time business, but growing quickly, the business was moved to its own small leased quarters near Marietta. Advertising was started in Yellow Pages directories, and a staff of on call waiters was developed. Wedding Receptions, holiday parties and picnics were most popular.


1989 to 1996

The search for expanded space landed Wizard Catering in Elizabethtown with 1200 square feet of space beside Nolt's Fine Seafood. The business became full time for the owner and by 1993 five other persons were employed full time. This period also saw the development of corporate catering. Cool Creek Country Club contracted us for exclusive use of their Ballroom facility in 1990. Intense marketing efforts yielded rapid growth.

In 1995 we began our search for a new location that could offer banquet space. The 8 full time staff that Wizard now employed were very cramped at the Elizabethtown site. A new contract account with the state was won in 1996 which added about 20 events per week to our production.


1996 to 2002

The lengthy search yielded an existing building that had been a restaurant and dairy store previously (just outside Mount Joy). After extensive renovations, Acorn Farms Reception and Conference Center was opened in November of 1996. The facility features three banquet rooms seating up to 160 guests.

Our facility also contains a large inspected production kitchen with extensive food storage space. In addition we store a sizable inventory of tables, chairs, linens, audio/visual equipment, china, flatware and glassware, as well as a floral design department and a theme and prop department.

This web site highlights our newest division "Just Picnics" and a web domain "justpicnics.com." Although we have always catered picnics, the emphasis in the last several years has been on operating the banquet facility. Jut Picnics is a value-priced product only for corporate groups or groups of 75+ guests (this can not be used for wedding receptions). The menus feature a great selection of picnic foods, prepared from scratch.


2003

Started in January, an addition has been built to expand our Ballroom at Acorn Farms. It was completed on April 1 and now accommodates 225 guests (up from the previous 150). In addition, the decor of the room has been improved with a higher ceiling, elegant wall coverings and a built in dance floor.
